Chris & Lauren Swonke

After meeting at Covenant Fellowship in 2005, Chris and Lauren decided early on they weren’t going to simply date for the sake of dating.  Four years later, now married and enjoying their new baby girl, this purposed approach to life continues to be their mode of operation

Having grown up in a Pastor’s family, Lauren has been no stranger to ministry.  Throughout the years she served in the areas of youth, children, drama, worship, cleaning or any other area that was in need of help.  She has also participated in short term mission trips. Chris met Jesus as a high school student in youth ministry.  He served God until his college years where he was drawn away by the pressure of friends and culture.  Although he wasn’t serving God during this time, he always knew that God was drawing him back.  His move to San Antonio brought about a return to relationship with Christ.  He made his way back to the area which ultimately caused him to cross paths with Lauren.  After the first night that they met, he told his brother he’d met his future wife.    With a deep respect and value for the work of youth ministry and a love for worship, Chris serves in So Real Youth Church and The Freedom Band at Covenant.  His love and ability to relate well with children make him an ideal partner in kid’s ministry.  With many years of experience under his belt, he works in Customer Service for a local company.  Lauren graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2006 with a B.A. in journalism and minor in Spanish.  During her time in college, Lauren worked as an afternoon host for the American Family Radio affiliate for the greater Houston area.  After graduation she moved back home to tackle the editor’s role of her hometown newspaper and later decided to pursue her teacher’s certificate when the local high school was in need of an English teacher.  After that year and having received her teachers certification for English/Language Arts for grades 9-12, Lauren and Chris were married.  She moved back to the area and began a career as a staffing consultant.  In this role she assisted individuals in finding employment in the clerical and light industrial fields.  God opened the door for Lauren to return to ministry when there became a need for a children’s director at Covenant.  This coincided with the arrival of their precious baby girl, Quinn.  What an incredible blessing this has been as she has been able to pursue God’s heart for children in her new role.

With a zeal for the purposes of God and a desire to make their lives count, Chris and Lauren are overwhelmed by the goodness of God and His call to serve in the ministry team at Covenant Fellowship.
